I submitted one of my furniture revamps to apartmenttherapy.com(awesome website, btw) the other day, and I was ecstatic to get an email that they were going to feature my work.

In retrospect, I knew I shouldn’t have read the comments… But I couldn’t help it. What a way to take the wind from a girl’s sails…. Pun intended.
I hope you enjoy it, but if not, that’s okay, if I were painting it for you, OF COURSE I would tailor it to meet your aesthetics. That’s why I do what I do.
I know there is a lot of heat out there for painting furniture. Antique and history lovers view it as a crime, myself included. But I promise this piece was beyond just staining….. It had water damage and deep gouges and cracks….. But restoration can be a lot more expensive, and if the clients don’t want that, then what’s a girl to do?
I work in a coastal furniture store… I see people pay high dollar for painted furniture all day. It may not be my personal taste….but that’s the exciting and beautiful thing about furniture/interior design…. There isn’t a certain look or a certain piece that makes everyone happy. But design is about what the client wants and you have to break the rules or your preconceived ideas about what an interior should be; that is the secret to making people happy in THEIR home.
What are your feelings on painting furniture?
And off the cuff, why are people so cruel when leaving comments on social media? It makes me scared. From news articles to a happy photo on Facebook. Everyone’s a critic, I guess? No sweat of my back… And let that be a life lesson to us all…. NEVER ever let anyone suck the joy from your life or dreams…. We are far too unique and gifted in our own ways to please everyone. Surround yourself with love and give your heart to others who appreciate it. And if they don’t appreciate it… Give anyway and smile… It may be just the thing they need in the long run.
All my love to you,
